A Lesson for My Children: True Empathy

“Rejoice with those who rejoice [sharing others’ joy], and weep with those who weep [sharing others’ grief]” – Romans 12:15 AMP

I try and always be mindful of life lessons that I want to make sure I impart to my children. Not just practical things such as how to change the oil in a car or dinner table manners but deeper spiritual things.

The other day while studying Romans, the Lord brought one of those life lessons to my mind.

Prison’s of Our Own Making

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” ~ Romans 8:14-15

Relationships are the most valuable currency we have. Life is about connection. It’s about establishing trust. Nowhere is this connection and trust more important than with our family and friends.

But for many men, this connection of trust can be hard. It’s not because they don’t want those connections, it’s not that they don’t want to trust people but because of the hurts and heartaches that they have suffered, they’ve built walls around their hearts. Gospel and Life Entwined

“Preach Christ continually…”

There is a quote by Francis Assisi that I have always loved, it says, “Preach Christ continually and when necessary use words.” At no time in life has this quote become more poignant then since I have become a father and a husband. Too often my go-to for conveying changes or desires that I think are necessary for my family to draw closer to Christ has been through my words but sadly my actions haven’t always matched up.
